💳 Medical Aids & Fees
We want to make managing your healthcare costs as straightforward as possible. Here is exactly how our billing works, what you need to check.
Are we contracted with your medical aid?
We are contracted with select medical aid and medical insurance networks and administrators, but coverage varies significantly depending on your specific medical scheme and choice of plan. Because medical aids manage multiple distinct plans, networks, and options, we are not registered under every single plan of our contracted schemes.
1. Contracted In-Network Plans
Check Your Plan: Even if we accept your specific medical aid, we are not registered under every individual network plan. We kindly ask that you contact your medical aid directly prior to your visit or appointment. Check with them to confirm if our practice is a designated or contracted provider for your exact option.
Nominate our Practice: For certain network-specific plans (such as Discovery Smart/KeyCare, GEMS Tanzanite/Emerald Value, or fedHEALTH flexiFED), you may need to actively nominate our practice as your primary or preferred GP through your medical aid's member portal /app or call them directly.
Prior Approvals & Authorisation Numbers
Certain consultations (such as Kaelo patients after their 3rd GP visit), specialised procedures, minor in-room surgeries, or chronic benefits require pre-authorisation from your medical aid before they will pay.
Patient Responsibility: It remains the patient’s responsibility to obtain a valid authorisation or reference number from their medical scheme prior to their visit.
Avoid Rejected Claims: If an authorisation number is required by your scheme and is not obtained before your visit, the medical aid will reject the claim, and the account will automatically become the patient's personal liability.
2. Out-of-Network & Self-Paying Patients
If we are not contracted to your specific medical aid or plan or if you prefer to pay cash, you are still incredibly welcome at our practice!
Upfront Settlement: Out-of-network consultations must be settled in full at the practice on the day of your visit. Cash paying non-medical aid patients are also welcome and pay upfront immediately following their consultation.
Reclaiming from Medical Aid: Following your payment, we will write up and email you a detailed, fully coded formal invoice and statement containing all the necessary ICD-10 and procedure codes. You can then submit this statement to your medical aid to claim your reimbursement.
